Ancient Oak Medieval Fayre 2019

31st August & 1st September 2019 at Quy Country Park, Cambridgeshire, England

Site: Quy Park, Stow Road, Stow cum Quy, CB25 9AF

Dates:31st August & 1st September 2019

Second year running, Insulae Draconis is taking part in the Ancient Oak Medieval Fayre. This is a larger gathering of re-enactment groups and traders aimed at the public. Our aim is to show what we do to both them and the other re-enactors present. To this end, we are holding an event within the event. This will allow those of us not comfortable with a direct demonstration to be in the background whilst enjoying a  camping event on both the Saturday and Sunday to the price of only £5 per adult. A simple lunch will also be provided on both days.  The first 30 registered will be granted a meal Saturday evening.
Please book by 31st July if you would like lunch, bookings still being taken during August however lunch will not be provided.

There will also be food and drink commercially available on site.

Activities

Martial

Armour and Rapier

We will have the space to create our own encampment and within that, it is our current intention to hold a tournament each day for both armoured and rapier combat. This will allow our fighters to fight all day.  The rest of the time our ring will be open for pick-ups, teaching and demonstrations. We will  also be holding the Knights of St. Michael tournament

Archery

We will have archery. Some time will be devoted to allowing the public to have a go, and some to dedicated shoots for those attending. It is also our intent, to stage an open tournament of some kind for all those at Ancient Oak so that our archers can show their skills against all-comers.

Arts & Sciences

We will have a large tent, most likely Nicholas de Estleche’s green and gold Burgundian, as a dedicated A&S space. We intend to have classes held on both days open to both our members, other groups and any members of the public who care to sit in.

Accommodation

Accommodation on site is camping only, I strongly suspect with period and mundane encampments.

The site is just to the north-east of Cambridge off the A14. There is a Best Western on the edge of the village and a Premier Inn on the north side of Cambridge off the A14 within a few minute’s drive.

Fires etc.

Fires and naked flames are permitted. Fire pits are also allowed as long as the turf is replaced when you leave.

Travel

Road

The site is easily accessible by road, being just off the A14. To get to the area from the west use the A14, from the south the M11 and from the north or south the A1(M).

Rail

The nearest stations are Waterbeach and Cambridge North, accessible directly from London King’s Cross, or with a change at Cambridge from London Liverpool Street. From the west go either via London or on a more direct line to Ely, and then change. Again from the north head for Ely and then change.
